Whether your student need a last-minute session before a big test or weekly meetings to get through a tough class, we can design a tutoring program to meet each student’s specific needs.
We help students not only succeed in their current classes but also build their study skills and prepare them to thrive in future coursework. Of course, the primary goal of any academic tutoring is to help students better understand the topic(s) they are struggling with and to increase their grades. However, we also teach students study skills and techniques to ensure they are properly preparing for quizzes, tests, and final exams. In our experience, poor study skills are often the reason why many students underachieve in the classroom. By addressing both the specific topic from the class and the more general study skills, we help students increase their confidence (and grades!) in the classes we are tutoring for and beyond.
Private academic tutoring allows us to create a plan for each student based on their individual needs and learning style. All students are unique, and we adjust our tutoring approach and plan accordingly. Some students need weekly tutoring sessions to keep up in a challenging class; some might have a bad teacher and need someone to explain the topics the teacher is failing to teach in class; and some may just need a little help before a big test. No matter what your student needs, we can design a tutoring program for you!
1. Expert Tutors
Academic Tutoring is with Matthew Stroup, a full-time test prep and tutoring professional. He has 9 years and over 7,500 hours of tutoring experience.
2. No Homework Helpers Here
Many tutors simply help students complete their homework rather than teaching them the underlying concepts and study skills they really need to succeed. Not here! We spend time in sessions teaching the student content they to know, solving example questions to illustrate the concepts, and then challenge the student to attempt to solve questions on their own. As students make mistakes or get stuck, we will assist and continue to teach. However, we do not simply solve the questions and have them watch because that is not how students truly learn!
3. Pay for Only the Time You Need
For remote tutoring sessions, you only pay for the exact time the student needs. Why pay for a full hour of tutoring if you only need 30 or 40 minutes? Once the student feel confident and ready to end the session, we sign off and prorate the session from the normal hourly rate.
4. Notes Emailed To You
For remote tutoring sessions, we share our screens and write down notes as we teach topics and solve questions. At the end of each sessions, we email all of these notes to the student.
For in-person sessions, we instruct students to add notes as we are working through topics and questions or will add notes ourselves.

We use Zoom for remote tutoring. Students either send us the questions and/or topics to be covered before the session or share their screen at the start of the session so we can screenshot the questions and/or topics. We then share our screens and use an iPad that we can write directly on as we teach topics or solve the questions, so the student can see exactly what we are working on. As a result, our remote tutoring sessions work just like if we were sitting across the table from the student.
At the completion of each session, we email all of the notes and solved questions to the student for him or her to review and use to study.
We offer online, in-person, and in-home tutoring. All of our tutoring is pay-as-you-go and charged at the hourly rates listed below. You can pick one of the options below or can mix-and-match.
Only pay for the time you use. Online tutoring session are prorated.
Online tutoring takes place on Zoom. Tutoring sessions can be prorated in case you need less time than a full hour. During tutoring sessions, we share our screens and have iPad that we write directly on. As a result, our online tutoring sessions run just like our in-person tutoring sessions. All notes are emailed to students at the end of the session.
The best option for students who learn better in-person.
In-person tutoring takes at our office in Del Mar. The office is conveniently located right off the 5. The office address is 445 Marine View Ave, Suite 300, Del Mar.
