What Makes Our Course Different?

Most tutors or test prep companies have students take practice tests and only review the questions that they answer incorrectly. The problem with that approach is that students never fully learn the content on the SAT, some of which can be quite challenging. Do you know all of the uses of a colon? What about a dash? When to use who vs. whom? Have you heard of misplaced modifiers? Ambiguous pronouns? To achieve a great score on the SAT Writing and Language Test, you need to know all of these topics and many many more.

Our course offers the most comprehensive instruction that teaches students all of the content tested on the Writing and Language Test. We also teach students proven test-taking strategies and pattern recognition. With all these skills, students have the knowledge and confidence to post their best score ever on test day.

The 4 Pillars of Our Course

1. Mastery Of Content

By learning every single rule tested on the SAT Writing and Language Test, students develop a thorough understanding of the content required to score perfectly. Each piece of content will be discussed in-depth in lectures and students complete many practice questions to learn how to properly apply the concepts. After mastering the content, students have the knowledge to assess why each answer choice is correct or incorrect and can efficiently answer questions correctly.

2. Pattern Recognition

Pattern recognition is an incredibly important skill and one that very few programs and tutors properly teach. Pattern recognition allows students to quickly identify which concepts they are being tested on. The SAT does not make it obvious what each question is testing students on so being able to distinguish what rules to apply is crucial to answering questions correctly.

3. Proven Test-Taking Strategies

Proven test-taking strategies help students properly pace themselves and understand how to best attack the section. Overall strategies are discussed at the beginning of the course, and more specific strategies are integrated into each chapter.

4. Applied Practice

Students will complete problem sets for each question type at the end of each chapter and bulk practice that combines different concepts. Each practice question has a video answer explanation to help students understand exactly how and when to apply the concepts if they have not yet achieved mastery.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does The Course Work?

The best way is to go see for yourself! Go sign up for our free trial!

At the start of each chapter, Michael will teach students the content in a series of instructional videos. The majority of this course focuses on grammar rules, which the SAT calls "Conventions of Standard English." Most students struggle with these questions because they are never properly taught grammar at school and rely on what "looks" or "sounds" right to them. Once you know the grammar rules and how to properly apply them, these questions become easy. We promise that students will learn more grammar in this course than in all of high school!

After learning the content and doing a few drills, students are assigned a practice problem set that includes anywhere from 10-40 multiple-choice questions. Questions in the problem set are carefully written to look just like real SAT questions. Each question has an individual video explanation, so students can customize the course by selecting which questions to watch explanations for. This allows students of all levels to progress at their own pace and maximize their benefits from this course.

Who Is This Course For?

Anyone who wants to increase their SAT Writing and Language score. Whether you are really struggling on the SAT Writing and Language Test or are only missing 5-7 questions and want to get a perfect score, this course can help you!

This course is especially helpful for students who are working through the SAT Writing and Language Test by "hearing" or "sounding out" what answer choice is correct! Whether you naturally are able to "hear" which answer choice is correct most of the time or the SAT Writing and Language feels incredibly overwhelming, you can quickly fix your mistakes and improve your score with the grammar rules and test-taking methods that Michael will teach you.

What Makes This Course Different?

This is the most comprehensive SAT Writing and Language course out there. Michael will teach you ALL of the grammar rules that appear on the SAT. Students learn more grammar in this course than they have in all of high school - that is a guarantee! In addition, this course teaches students not only how to master the content that is featured on the Writing and Language Test but also how to spot the patterns to identify what topic(s) they are being tested on in each question. The combination of these skills is critical to maximizing scores on test day.

How Much Do Students Improve?

On average, students increase their SAT Writing & Language scores by 50-70 points, with many students improving beyond that. The Writing and Language Test has 44 questions. We have had many students who get 25-32 questions correct on their first practice SAT improve to answering 38, 40, 42, or even all 44 questions correctly!

Is This Recorded Course As Good As A Live Tutor?

Yes! As long as you are willing to put in the effort, it can be just as effective. After teaching these exact lessons to over a thousand students, Michael knows exactly where students struggle, what the most common questions are, and how to best help students succeed. This means that almost every single one of your possible questions or struggles is addressed in the videos you will watch. If not, we have a comments section for any questions students may have. On-demand lectures also allow students to rewatch lectures, a feature not available with a live tutor. This is a valuable resource because students can rewatch the lectures and review the material if they are missing questions on practice tests.

How Many Videos And Practice Questions Are There?

There are 350 videos, 8.5 hours of instruction, and 512 practice questions. The lectures are a total of 4.5 hours of recorded content, and the other 4 hours of content are recorded explanations for practice questions.

What Do You Use For Materials?

Students are given a PDF copy of the 130-page PrepPros SAT Writing and Language book. The book has 16 chapters that cover all the content on the Writing and Language Test and 512 practice questions. Each chapter includes lessons, drills, and practice questions. A practice question set is assigned as homework for students to complete at the end of each chapter.

Are Students Assigned Homework?

Yes, at the completion of each chapter, students are assigned a practice problem set with 10-40 multiple-choice questions. Students can then watch video explanations for any questions that they answer incorrectly or want to better understand before starting the next chapter.

Are Practice Tests Included?

No, we do not include any practice SATs in this course.

We recommend that students complete 4-6 practice SATs during or after the course.

For information about where to find practice SATs, go to our blog post here.

Do You Offer A Guaranteed Score Increase?

No, we do not. As tutors, we provide the best prep possible, but we are only half of the team. We cannot control the variety of factors that can affect how a student performs on test day. How much was the student studying? How did they manage the pressure and stress of test day? Does the students suffer from testing anxiety? All of these factors can affect the scores.

Additionally, any test prep company offering a “guarantee” is not really offering a guarantee. If you read the fine print, students must complete a very large number of tutoring hours, all homework assignments, and all practice tests to qualify for a guarantee. Plus, your child needs to have already taken an official SAT or ACT before beginning the process. Want to complete an excessive number of homework questions and take 15 practice tests just to qualify for a guarantee? Yeah, we did not think so.

How Long Do I Get Access To The Course?

6 months from the purchase date. After 6 months, the course log-in is no longer valid and must be purchased again.

How Long Does It Take To Complete The Course?

We recommend completing this course over 4-8 weeks. However, students who are in a rush and dedicate lots of time to SAT Writing and Language can complete the course in as little as as 1-2 weeks.

For any student who has limited time before their SAT, we recommend focusing on the first 5 chapters of the course, as these chapters usually help students improve their scores the most.
